Dr. Jim Garrow: Stirring the Pot

There are times in the campaigns of most politicians when they might be off their game or be tired enough that a slip is made, a gesture goes amiss, or a comment comes out that mangles a carefully groomed message. I, like many, have been enjoying the off the cuff, no holds barred, often brash and seemingly ego tainted pronouncements of The Donald. You can be assured that his words have not been sifted by the “communications specialists” and been rendered “pasteurized for human consumption”. He lets her fly and the chips will fall where they may. I liked the honest response to a “God” question. Instead of using the “right” words that oozed from the mouth of Barack Hussein Obama lending assent to his understanding of “faith in Christ, The Donald admitted like many Americans that he had never asked for Gods forgiveness. Should the evangelical right pounce on him for his “audacity” or thank him for his honesty? I’m headed in the direction of thanking him and encouraging him. He’s a rich man and in the most precarious position of all, “the eye of the needle” gate comes to mind when remembering the words of Christ.

Whether or not we end up with Mr. Trump as the nominee we will be remembering that he brought the debates and the discourse up a notch into the realm of the real from the realm of flat points that cause no flaps. He dares to go where politicians should all be going, into that dark alley of truth where you don’t know whether its safe to tread there. The people are responding to gutsy, in your face, statements that are not contrived and crafted to mollify the minority interests that the press champion. This guy is talking Motherhood and apple pie and doing it in a way that this humble commenter can relate to.

Frankly folks I am sick of slick and hope that The Donald can keep the good guys on their toes and addressing things that need to be dealt with whether it makes the talking heads in the press explode or not. This guy is doing the nation a service by stirring it up and getting us out of the safe zone and into the danger zone where the dialogue should be dealing with issues that need to be brought out into the open. We have had six years of deception and darkness, let’s be glad that the glaring light is going to be pointed in the direction of inconvenient realities that need exposure. Thank you Donald Trump for making sure that the batteries are fully charged and that the light is ready to do what it should to dispel the darkness.
